Fiji Sugar Corporation Addresses Farmers’ Concerns Over Mill Operations
Lautoka, Fiji: Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) CEO Bhan Pratap Singh has reassured farmers that the issues at the Lautoka Sugarcane Mill have been resolved. The commitment follows complaints by sugarcane farmer Jitendra Singh of Drasa Lautoka, who reported operational problems, causing lorry drivers to sleep outside the mill and delays in payments to sugarcane cutters. The mill, which faced initial issues at the start of the crushing season on June 5, is now functioning at the required capacity.
Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) chief executive officer Bhan Pratap Singh says they were committed to addressing any issues raised by farmers and ensuring the smooth operation of the mill for the benefit of all stakeholders.
This follows a complaint by a sugarcane farmer Jitendra Singh of Drasa Lautoka who claims that the Lautoka Sugarcane mill was not working properly.
Mr Singh claims that sugarcane lorry drivers had to sleep outside the mill.
He said they were not receiving any money to pay sugarcane cutters.
In response to these claims yesterday, Mr Singh said the Lautoka mill initially experienced some issues during the start of the crushing season on June 5.
“The mill is now operational,” he said.
“We have addressed the concerns, and the mill is operating at the required capacity.”
