Kanpur: District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Friday instructed the Food Security and Drug Administration department to conduct regular inspections of festival-related food items, particularly ‘kuttu flour’, and implement stringent measures against adulterators.
During a review meeting with the Food Security and Drug Administration department, the District Magistrate addressed the issue of food traders and street vendors repeatedly using same cooking oil. He emphasised that this practice increases TPC and FAA levels in edible oil, posing health risks. He advocated organising awareness programmes to educate food business proprietors and vendors about these dangers.
He mandated all district hotels and restaurants to display boards confirming their FSSAI compliance, with the department providing standar dised format.
The magistrate called for collaboration with voluntary organisations and Vyapar Mandals to conduct awareness programmes regarding hygiene maintenance in school canteens, university cafeterias, and institutional messes. He emphasised the importance of weekly market awareness through street performances about fertiliser safety.
The District Magistrate announced plans to recognise five shopkeepers who maintain exemplary hygiene standards and provide customers with a clean environment. He instructed the drug inspector to conduct monthly inspections of pharmaceutical manufacturing units and blood banks.
The District Food Safety Officer received directives to take firm action against vendors of adulterated foods, particularly those using artificial colours in chutney, biryani and similar items. He stressed absolute compliance with FSSAI guidelines regarding food colour restrictions.
Instructions were given to the basic education officer and district programme officer to emphasise hand-washing practices among primary school children during mid-day meals.
