Gang stealing edible oil from tankers busted

A gang involved in edible oil theft from tankers on the Malvan highway near Pipli village, Surendranagar, was busted by CID Crime. Thirteen people, including five arrested, were bribing tanker drivers to siphon oil, primarily palm, cottonseed, and soybean oil, bound for Hazira. Assets worth ₹1.57 crore, including cash, vehicles, and oil stocks, were seized during the operation.

Rajkot: A gang involved in the theft of edible oil from tankers on the Malvan highway near Pipli village in Patdi taluka of Surendranagar district was busted by the CID Crime on Saturday night. A case of theft was registered against 13 people and five of them were arrested.The scheme involved bribing tanker drivers to park their trucks behind Ramdev Hotel to pilfer edible oil from it.

The 13 booked belong to Rajkot, Morbi, Surendranagar, Gandhinagar, and Ajmer. Those arrested were identified as Ajay Kumar Koli (29), Mehboob Sumra (47), Narpat Thakor (21), Pravin Koli (27), and Gajaraj Singh Rawat (27).The eight others booked are: Manish Patel, Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, Suresh Ramgopal, Razak, Vishal, Narendra Singh Jadeja, and two other tanker drivers. The CID Crime in Gandhinagar received information that Manish from Rajkot and his associates were orchestrating an oil theft plan on Dhangadhra-Malvan highway near Pipli village. They would target tankers carrying palm oil, cottonseed oil, and soybean oil from Mundra and going to Hazira. The gang members bribed drivers and conductors to pilfer oil from the tankers.According to CID officials, during the raid, tankers were found parked, and some people were seen transferring liquid from the tankers into containers.

Ajay Koli, nabbed from the spot, told police that Manish, Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, and Vishal were involved in the illegal extraction of oil from the tankers. Narendra Jadeja oversaw the operation and maintained records, while Suresh Ramgopal coordinated with the drivers, providing location details.The extracted oil was loaded into containers and sent to Ahmedabad in a vehicle driven by Mehboob, who received invoices via mobile from Suresh.The details of the stolen oil were shared in a group by Narendra, and payments were made to the drivers through GooglePay or other means. Labourers were paid Rs 500 a day for extracting oil and loading it into the vehicle. Tanker seals were deliberately kept loose to facilitate the operation.Driver Mehboob revealed that he was paid Rs 3,500 per trip for transporting oil from Mundra to Narol in Ahmedabad.Thakor mentioned that he received Rs 500 a day for labour work.Assets worth Rs 1.57 crore, including cash, mobile phones, account diaries, invoices, a vehicle, three tankers, and stocks of palm and raw soybean oil, were seized from the location, said police.
