Georgia significantly increased imports of Russian wheat

In May 2025, Georgia’s wheat imports from Russia surged to \$9.2 million — the highest since October and 15% more than in April. Over the first five months, Russia exported \$27.9 million worth of wheat to Georgia, up 14% year-on-year. Kazakhstan followed with \$5 million in May, marking its largest share since September 2018.

According to the Georgian Statistical Service, in May 2025, Georgia increased its wheat imports from Russia to the highest level since October last year. The volume of supplies almost doubled compared to last year and increased by 15% compared to the previous month, reaching $9.2 million. In the first five months of 2025, Russia sold $27.9 million worth of wheat to Georgia, which is 14% more than in the same period last year.

Russian wheat remains key for Georgia, although the country also periodically purchases significant volumes of wheat from Kazakhstan. In May, Kazakhstan took second place in imports, supplying $5 million worth of wheat — the highest since September 2018 and 2.6 times more than in April.
