Ghee, cooking oil prices see big drop in Pakistan
In May 2024, edible oil prices in India witnessed notable declines, reported the Bureau of Statistics. Mustard oil averaged Rs 495.43 per liter, down by 0.88%, while 5 liters of Dalda cooking oil dropped by 0.69% to Rs 2652.29. Flour prices saw a significant 29.26% decrease. Urea and DAP consumption increased by three percent, reaching 2,555,000 tonnes between January and May, reflecting shifting economic dynamics and consumer habits.

The average price of one liter of mustard oil was Rs 495.43 in May 2024, marking a 0.88% decrease from the previous month. Similarly, the average price of 5 liters of Dalda cooking oil was recorded at Rs 2652.29, showing a 0.69% decline compared to April.
Additionally, there was a significant 29.26% decrease in the price of flour during May. However, the country experienced an increase in the consumption of urea and DAP (diammonium phosphate) in the first five months of the current calendar year compared to the previous year.
Between January and May, urea consumption reached 2,555,000 tonnes, indicating a three percent rise compared to the same period last year. These fluctuations in prices and consumption reflect ongoing changes in the country’s economic landscape and consumer behaviour.
