Global demand for ethanol rising and Trump administration creates new opportunities for industry: Growth Energy
The U.S. announced new trade agreements with Malaysia and Cambodia and frameworks with Thailand and Vietnam, expanding market access for ethanol, corn, and DDGS. U.S. farm groups, including NCGA and Growth Energy, praised the move, saying it will boost exports, support rural economies, and enhance America’s biofuel leadership.
The Trump administration has announced a series of trade deals and frameworks with several Asian nations, opening new opportunities for U.S. ethanol, corn, and corn-based products such as distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS).
On Sunday, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) confirmed new reciprocal trade agreements with Malaysia and Cambodia, along with frameworks for future agreements with Thailand and Vietnam.
The announcement drew praise from key U.S. agricultural groups. National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) President Jed Bower welcomed the move, noting that the new deals include expanded market access for ethanol and corn-related exports.
“This is very positive news for America’s corn growers,” Bower said. “Eliminating tariffs on ethanol exports to Malaysia and Cambodia will drive demand. We’re also encouraged that the framework with Thailand includes agricultural purchases of corn and DDGS. The framework with Vietnam looks equally promising, as it’s already a strong market for DDGS, and U.S. growers are well positioned to supply both corn and ethanol. We look forward to reviewing the details of these frameworks. Corn growers have long called for new market openings, and we commend the Trump administration for listening and taking action.”
Growth Energy, the nation’s largest biofuel trade association, also applauded the agreements. CEO Emily Skor said the new trade pacts will provide vital export opportunities for rural America.
“American farmers and rural communities want and need new markets—like the ones that will be created and expanded by these trade agreements,” Skor said. “Global demand for ethanol continues to grow, and the Trump administration is helping ensure U.S. producers can seize these opportunities. These deals will be welcome news across the heartland, and we commend USTR for advancing America’s energy leadership through strong trade partnerships.”
The agreements mark another step in the administration’s broader strategy to boost U.S. agricultural exports and strengthen the nation’s role in the global biofuel and energy markets.
