Godavari Biorefineries Limited (GBL), a prominent producer of ethanol and a pioneer in ethanol-based chemical manufacturing in India, has released its audited financial results for the quarter ending March 31, 2025. The company reported revenue from operations at ₹579.5 crore for Q4 FY25, compared to ₹615.2 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. Despite the dip in revenue, profitability strengthened, with Profit After Tax (PAT) increasing to ₹96.4 crore from ₹65.2 crore in Q4 FY24. The company also achieved a notable improvement in margins, reporting an EBITDA margin of 21.0% and a PAT margin of 16.6%.
Ethanol production during the fourth quarter saw a significant rise, reaching 45,042 kilolitres, up from 34,670 kilolitres in Q4 FY24. This increase in production highlights GBL’s continued focus on operational efficiency and capacity utilization. The growth in profitability, despite a slight decline in revenue, reflects disciplined cost management and a strategic shift toward higher-margin product segments.
For the full financial year ended March 31, 2025, GBL posted strong overall performance. Revenue from operations grew to ₹1,870.3 crore, compared to ₹1,686.7 crore in FY24. However, annual ethanol production was slightly lower at 84,038 kilolitres, down from 95,168 kilolitres in the previous year. The company’s financial and operational results for the year underscore its resilience and ability to deliver value amid changing market conditions.
Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director, noted that FY25 marked a pivotal year with substantial progress across strategic and operational areas. The bio-based chemicals segment achieved more than double the EBITDA, driven by a focus on high-value sustainable products and improved efficiency.
The company also recorded a new high in sugarcane crushing, processing 24.65 lakh tonnes during the 2024–25 sugar season at its Sameerwadi unit. Restoration of the sugarcane juice ethanol blending program contributed to improved ethanol utilization during the crushing season.
The 200 KLPD grain/maize distillery project remains on track and is expected to be commissioned in Q4 FY26. GBL is actively exploring multi-feedstock alternatives for greater adaptability and is implementing debottlenecking and capacity expansion initiatives, especially in specialty chemicals.
Godavari Biorefineries Limited is among the top ethanol manufacturers in India and a frontrunner in ethanol-based chemical production. The company’s diverse portfolio includes bio-based chemicals, sugar, rectified spirits, ethanol, multiple alcohol grades, and power.
