Government focusing on increasing maize production: UP CM Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath launched a campaign to bring agricultural experts directly to farmers’ fields, aiming to boost crop productivity. At an event in Auraiya, he praised maize farmers, announced MSP and procurement centers, and noted maize’s growing role in development. He also highlighted past reforms, including a ₹36,000 crore farm loan waiver.
Auraiya: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday highlighted the state government’s efforts to bring agricultural experts directly to farmers’ fields for the first time. He said scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), professors from agricultural universities, and experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendras are now visiting farms under a new campaign aimed at boosting productivity.
Speaking at an event under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan–2025 held at Janata Degree College in Ajitmal, Auraiya, the Chief Minister interacted with maize farmers, honoured progressive ones, distributed seed kits, and handed out grants under various government schemes. He also visited exhibition stalls, took part in an Annaprashan ceremony for children, and planted saplings. Farmers were invited to share their experiences during the event.
“This new campaign is focused on helping farmers at every stage, from sowing seeds to selling their produce. Farmers who once grew only one or two crops are now cultivating maize on more than five lakh hectares, and they’re earning well,” Yogi Adityanath said.
The Chief Minister noted that in 20–25 districts across the state, maize farming is becoming a major force for development. “With farmers growing maize, potatoes, and paddy in the same year, they are playing a strong role in the country’s growth,” he added.
Yogi also spoke about the situation before 2017, describing how farmers faced many problems, including unpaid sugarcane dues and a lack of crop procurement centers. One of the first steps his government took after coming to power was waiving ₹36,000 crore worth of loans for 86 lakh farmers.
Impressed by the maize cultivation in Auraiya, Yogi promised that maize procurement centers would soon be opened and Minimum Support Price (MSP) would be announced. He highlighted the multiple uses of maize, from food products like baby corn and sweet corn to industrial uses such as biofuel and bioplastic, and said PM Modi has encouraged food processing and value addition.
