Government taking stringent measures to check ‘PDS rice mafia’ in Andhra Pradesh, asserts Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar
Lambasting the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government for “creating an organised mafia” that traded in the rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh had seized 60,000 tonnes of PDS rice within six months of coming to power against 76,854 tonnes during 2019-24.
Lambasting the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government for “creating an organised mafia” that traded in the rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh had seized 60,000 tonnes of PDS rice within six months of coming to power against 76,854 tonnes during 2019-24.
Replying to a question raised by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary and others, Mr. Manohar said 9,664 people had been arrested for illegally transporting the rice during the previous government’s term. Out of them, 148 individuals were arrested more than twice, he added.
