Govt claims todouble maizeprodn by 2027

The Uttar Pradesh government has set a target to double maize production to 27.30 lakh metric tonnes by 2027. To achieve this, they plan to expand cultivation areas and increase yield per hectare. The state has launched the “Quick Maize Development Scheme” with a budget of Rs 27.68 crore for 2023-2024, aiming to improve maize farming techniques and boost production efficiency. Current maize production stands at 21.16 lakh metric tonnes.

Lucknow: The state govt claimed on Thursday that it has set the target of doubling maize production by 2027.

According to a state govt spokesperson, the aim is to increase maize output to 27.30 lakh metric tonnes within the specified period. To achieve this, the state govt plans to enhance both the cultivation area and the yield per hectare.

The spokesperson said that the state has started the “Quick Maize Development Scheme,” with substantial financial backing of Rs 27.68 crore allocated for the financial year 2023-2024.

This scheme is designed to drive advancements in maize farming techniques and boost production efficiency across the state.Maize production in the state has currently reached 21.16 lakh metric tonnes.
