Govt floats tender to set up ethanol plant at sugar factory
Moving to appease sugarcane farmers, the government on Tuesday announced request for qualification (RFQ) tender to set up an ethanol plant at the Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana in Dharbandora taluka.
The ethanol plant will be set up in the PPP mode on design-built-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) basis, said the agriculture directorate.

A pre-application conference will be held on February 1, while the last date for submitting online applications is
March 1.
The RFQ forms can be downloaded at the e-procurement portal on January 10. As there had been no clarity on the survival of the Sanjivani sugar factory, sugarcane farmers held a protest rally at the Azad Maidan, Panaji on Monday, after four days of protests at
the factory.
The farmers have been demanding launch of the ethanol plant so as to revive the factory. However, the proposal has been hanging fire for several years.
In 2022, a project for setting up a Rs 80 crore integrated sugar mill at the factory was proposed but did not take off.
As per the project, the ethanol plant would generate employment for 235 people and supply ethanol to distilleries in the state.
The project report included setting up of a seed development and farmers training centre at the Sanjivani premises.
During the protest rally at the Azad Maidan, sugarcane farmers said that a contractor is ready to start ethanol plant but the government is unwilling to take up the said project.
