Govt permits to import 49,000 tonnes boiled rice
The Ministry of Food has permitted 30 organisations and individuals to import 49,000 tonnes of boiled rice (excluding aromatic) and 34,000 tonnes of atap rice. A circular issued mandates that imported rice must be marketed in Bangladesh by 25 April and sold in original imported sacks without rebranding. This move aims to address rice shortages and ensure transparency in rice distribution across the country amid ongoing supply chain challenges.
The government has allowed 30 organisations and individuals to import 49,000 tonnes of boiled rice (except aromatic rice) and 34,000 tonnes of atap rice into the country.
The Ministry of Food issued a circular in this regard on Thursday.
According to the circular, the importers have to market the rice in Bangladesh by 25 April.
The imported rice cannot be repackaged in the name of the organisations rather must be sold in imported sacks, it added.
