Grain production has fallen sharply in Turkey

Turkey’s 2025 grain output has sharply declined, with wheat falling to 17.9 million tons, barley to 6 million tons, and corn to 8.5 million tons. The reduced harvest is driving higher import needs. Wheat imports in the first four months surged 28 percent to 1.43 million tons compared to last year.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country’s gross wheat harvest in 2025 has fallen to 17.9 million tons, a 13.7% decrease compared to last year.

Barley production fell by 25.9% to 6.0 million tons. Corn harvests also fell to 8.5 million tons (-4.9% compared to last year).

Due to the poor harvest, Turkey will be forced to increase grain imports. In the first four months of the current season, Turkey imported 1,432,300 tons of wheat, a 28% increase compared to the same period last year.
