Green hydrogen industrial park to be developed in Spain
Envision Energy is developing Europe’s first green hydrogen net zero industrial park in Spain, with an initial $1 billion investment. This park will focus on design, research, manufacturing, and servicing green hydrogen technologies. It aims to accelerate Spain’s green hydrogen adoption, support hard-to-abate sectors, and reduce emissions. The facility, planned to begin construction in early 2026, will create around 1,000 green jobs and produce advanced electrolysers and modular equipment.
A ‘green hydrogen net zero industrial park’ is to be developed in Spain by Chinese green tech company Envision Energy.
The industrial park, expected to be a first of its type in Europe, has emerged in a partnership with Spain’s government, which was ratified as part of an MoU during the country’s prime minister’s visit to China and should see an initial $1 billion investment into the initiative.
The proposal is that the park will serve as a design, research, manufacture and service function for green hydrogen and should play a pivotal role in accelerating Spain’s green hydrogen adoption plans, particularly in the hard-to-abate sectors, and its progress towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Envision also intends to establish a state-of-the-art Green Hydrogen Centre of Excellence to serve as a ‘hub’ for building local skills and talent, catalysing innovations and attracting industrial collaborations across Spain.
“With its ideal resources, market scale and expertise, Spain is well-placed to be the European leader in green hydrogen and Envision, together with our net zero tech partners, is excited to play a role in securing Spain’s green energy future,” commented Lei Zhang, founder and Chairman of Envision Energy.
The facility, for which a site location is under investigation, is planned to produce high capacity proton exchange membrane electrolysers and low and high pressure alkaline electrolysers, as well as other modular equipment such as air separation units for green hydrogen and green ammonia production.
Spain has targeted achieving 11GW of electrolyser capacity by 2030.
Construction is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2026 of the facility, which is expected to lead to creation of around 1,000 new green jobs.
Envision Energy styles itself as a ‘net zero tech partner’ and claims to be the only company that can provide an integrated hydrogen value chain within its net zero industrial park concept.
The first of these is currently being built in Ordos in Inner Mongolia.
Envision also has joined with Bureau Veritas to announce the first net zero industrial park standard so that the parks can be certified.
