Haryana mill set to enter global market with sugar exports

The Chaudhary Devi Lal Cooperative Sugar Mill in Ahulana, Haryana plans to export sugar to African markets in the 2025–26 season. The mill received an export quota of 16,500 quintals from the state’s 1.93 lakh quintal allocation, aiming to sell at about ₹4,000 per quintal to strengthen its finances.

Gohana: The Chaudhary Devi Lal Cooperative Sugar Mill in Ahulana village is set to enter the international market, with plans to export sugar to African countries during the 2025–26 crushing season.

Mill officials said preparations are underway to export sugar at a target price of around Rs 4,000 per quintal, a move expected to improve the mill’s financial position.

The development comes after the Haryana government fixed an export quota of 1.93 lakh quintals for 10 cooperative sugar mills in the state. Out of this, the Ahulana mill has been allowed to export around 16,500 quintals.

Officials said sugar produced in Haryana continues to find demand in international markets, particularly in African countries, due to its quality. Tenders for export are expected to be issued soon by the sugar federation, enabling mills to begin shipments.

During the 2025–26 season, the Ahulana mill crushed 22.08 lakh quintals of sugarcane and produced about 1.86 lakh quintals of sugar. Of this, nearly 47,000 quintals have already been sold in the domestic market at prices ranging between Rs 3,900 and Rs 4,000 per quintal.

The remaining stock will be partly exported, while the rest will be sold in other states and local markets. Officials said entering the global market is likely to open up further export opportunities in the future.

In addition, the mill recorded the highest price for bagasse sales among cooperative mills in the state, selling around 10,000 quintals at Rs 316 per quintal.

Sugar sales manager Dhanniram Sharma said the mill is ready to participate in the export process once tenders are issued.
