Haryana News: Wheat procurement will start in Haryana from today

Haryana has commenced its wheat procurement for the 2025-26 rabi season, aiming to purchase 75 lakh metric tonnes at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,425 per quintal. Procurement will occur across 415 centers, including 23 in Karnal. However, reports indicate that essential preparations, such as finalizing transporters, labor contractors, and distributing gunny bags, are incomplete, potentially affecting the procurement process.
Government has set a target of buying 75 lakh tons of wheat
Chandigarh : Wheat procurement will begin in the mandis of Haryana from today. This time the state government has set a target of buying 75 lakh tons of wheat. Wheat will be bought at MSP. At present, there are 415 grain mandis in the state. Where the government will buy wheat from the farmers. Talking about preparations, a lot of things seem incomplete. Adequate preparations for procurement have not been completed in the Mandis. In some places, gunny bags have not arrived and in many Mandis, basic facilities are lacking. Tenders for wheat lifting have not been issued in all the Mandis. Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has also raised this issue. However, Director of Food and Supplies Department Rajesh Jogpal has denied the allegations.
Cash credit limit of Rs 6653.44 crore has been approved
Director of Food and Supplies Department Rajesh Jogpal said that there is no shortage of gunny bags in the state. Except for two-three districts, the tenders for lifting have been finalized in all other places. Only the rates have to be approved by the state committee. Till the time a new tender is issued, the contractor of the old tender will continue the lifting. He said that the government has approved a cash credit limit of Rs 6653.44 crore for the procurement season.
Payment will be made to the farmers’ accounts within 48 to 72 hours
Bankers have been instructed to make payments to farmers’ accounts within 48 to 72 hours of issuance of exit gate passes from the mandis. Rajesh Jogpal reviewed the preparations on Monday by holding a meeting with officials of procurement agencies FCI, Hafed and Warehouse Corporation.
