Haryana Rabi procurement surges: 39.65 LMT wheat arrives, Rs 188 crore paid to farmers

Heavy rains have disrupted wheat procurement in Punjab and Haryana, raising moisture levels beyond acceptable limits and impacting crop quality. While arrivals remain strong, procurement is slowing, and farmers face uncertainty over prices and losses. Authorities are reviewing next steps as weather risks continue to challenge the harvest season.

Chandigarh, April 13, 2026: Procurement of wheat and mustard under the Rabi marketing season 2026–27 is progressing smoothly across mandis and procurement centres in Haryana, with significant arrivals and payments recorded so far.

According to an official spokesperson, around 39.65 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat has reached mandis in the state till April 12.

Out of this, 2.44 lakh farmers have completed biometric verification for 30.90 LMT of wheat, while 10.92 LMT has already been procured. An amount of approximately Rs 188 crore has been directly transferred into farmers’ bank accounts.

The procurement of mustard began on March 28, 2026, while wheat procurement started from April 1. The Government of India has fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at Rs 6,200 per quintal for mustard and Rs 2,585 per quintal for wheat.

To facilitate procurement, 112 mandis and purchase centres have been opened for mustard, while wheat procurement is being carried out at 416 mandis along with 264 additional procurement sites.

Mustard procurement is being handled by HAFED, while wheat procurement is being undertaken by multiple agencies including the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, HAFED, Haryana Warehousing Corporation, and the Food Corporation of India.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the state government has introduced several measures to enhance transparency in the procurement process. These include biometric verification of farmers, vehicle tracking, geo-fencing of mandis, and installation of surveillance cameras.

The spokesperson highlighted that during the same period last year, 20.39 LMT wheat had arrived in mandis, with 10.47 LMT procured and payments of Rs 174.39 crore made to farmers, indicating a significant increase this season.

To streamline operations, 1,281 biometric machines and 407 iris scanners have been deployed for farmer verification. Farmers registered on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal, or their authorised representatives, are allowed to sell produce after biometric authentication at mandis.

Additionally, around 2,500 personnel and 114 technical staff have been deployed, while nearly 932 cameras have been installed across mandis to monitor procurement activities.

The government assured that robust arrangements are in place to ensure farmers face no difficulties and reiterated its commitment to procure every grain at MSP from registered farmers.
