Hearing in cheque dishonour case of Sanjivani deferred
Ponda: A Sanguem court has adjourned the hearing in the Sanjivani Cooperative Sugar Factory cheque dishonour case as the issuing signatory remained absent due to medical reasons.
The cheque was issued to the Dharbandora-based company by Pradip Bhagwan Jamdar, owner of a transport company from Maharashtra.
In 2017, prior to the sugarcane crushing season, then managing director of the Sanjivani, Umeshchandra Joshi had engaged Jamadar’s Maloji Raje Transport to supply hundred teams of labourers to harvest canes procured by the factory from Karnataka besides Dharbandora and Sanguem talukas of Goa.
Each team was supposed to consist of 25 labourers.
Considering Rs 5 lakh for each team, an amount of Rs 5 crore and an additional Rs 10 lakh for purchasing harvesting equipment was paid in advance to Jamadar by the managing director.
However, the contractor failed to supply the teams hampering the harvesting and affecting the cane crushing operations at the factory.
Subsequently, Jamadar issued two cheques for Rs 2.5 crore each to the company. However, both were dishonoured. The factory then moved the court for the recovery of dues.
