Residents of Tiekuni village in Kiambu are counting losses after heavy rains accompanied by strong winds destroyed crops and houses leaving them homeless.

The residents said the rains had caused havoc destroying their maize crop and houses.

They called for support from the county government.

“The children had left the house first and upon seeing the havoc informed me, I also realized the iron sheets of my house were carried away,” Francis Sam said.

The Kenya Meteorological Department had earlier noted in the 7-day weather forecast from January 16-22, there will be isolated rainfall in several counties  Kiambu county being among them.

“Most farmers lost their farm produce which they had received from the county government and planted recently,” Ndeiya MCA Nelson Munga said.

Munga urged Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi to assist the residents affected.
