The state government has announced the procurement of 65 metric tons (MT) of maize cultivated through natural farming from 431 farmers in Mandi district.

With a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 30 per kg, many farmers are thrilled at the financial support aimed at enhancing their economic self-reliance.

This initiative, driven by the hard work of farmers and state incentives, is promoting the Subhash Palekar method of natural farming. Increasing awareness of the benefits of organic agriculture has led to a growing number of farmers adopting this practice.

Under the state’s “Atma” project, designated purchase centres have been established in four locations: Churag, Chailchowk, Sundernagar and Mandi. Specific quantities have been allocated for purchase from various blocks, including 5 MT from 49 farmers in Karsog and 12 MT from 46 farmers in Sundernagar.

Farmers, including Asharam from Nuroli, and Geeta Ram from Kolag, expressed their gratitude for the government’s decision, highlighting the importance of receiving fair prices for high-quality organic produce. Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan confirmed that necessary preparations for the purchase had been made. This government initiative marks a significant step towards increasing farmers’ incomes and fostering economic independence through sustainable agricultural practices.
