Hyundai Engineering & Construction has completed the Siheung Clean Energy Center, Korea’s first privately funded integrated biogas plant. Located in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, the facility covers 33,430 square meters and processes sewage, food waste, and manure to produce 4.6 million cubic meters of city gas annually. Construction began in March 2021, with full operation starting after 39 months, supplying gas to around 8,283 households for 20 years.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction has finalized the Siheung Clean Energy Center, marking the first privately invested integrated biogas facility in Korea. The completion ceremony for the Siheung Clean Energy Center was held at the Water Environment Center in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do on July 3rd.

The Siheung Clean Energy Center, located within the Water Environment Center in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, spans a total floor area of 33,430 square meters. It functions as an integrated facility for treating sewage waste (540 cubic meters/day), food waste (145 cubic meters/day), and manure (60 cubic meters/day) to produce biogas. This biogas, processed in refining facilities, annually produces about 4.6 million cubic meters of city gas. This volume is sufficient for daily use by approximately 8,283 households across Siheung.

Construction on the main project by Hyundai E&C commenced in March 2021 and was completed on June 28th of this year, following 39 months of work, including a 10-month trial operation period. The facility began full-scale production and supply of city gas immediately upon completion and will manage operations for the next 20 years.
