India donated 2,200 tonnes of rice to flood victims in Myanmar, with a handover ceremony held at Asia World Port. Attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Indian Ambassador Abhay Thakur, and officials, the event highlighted India’s commitment under its “Act East” and “Neighbourhood First” policies. The chief minister expressed gratitude and presented a certificate of appreciation. The donation reflects India’s support and cooperation with Myanmar during challenging times.
The handover ceremony for 2,200 tonnes of rice donated by the government of India to flood victims in Myanmar was held at Asia World Port yesterday morning and attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Abhay Thakur and embassy officials, representatives of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, and officials from the Yangon Region Disaster Management Department.
The ambassador first explained the purpose of the donation.
“The donation of 2,200 tonnes of rice reflects the government of India’s unwavering commitment, underpinned by its longstanding ‘Act East’ and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policies, to assist the friendly people of Myanmar in times of need and the spirit of enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations,” said a press release from the Embassy of India on 12 December.
The chief minister then gave a word of thanks and presented a certificate of appreciation.
Afterwards, the chief minister, the ambassador, and officials inspected the containers carrying 2,200 tonnes of rice donated to Myanmar by the Indian government.
