Indonesia Government confirms rice exports to Malaysia, stocks safe

Indonesia’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono assured that exporting 2,000 tons of rice monthly to Malaysia will not impact domestic stocks. Supplies will come from Bulog warehouses, receiving 20,000 tons daily. Exports will begin once Malaysian importers are ready. Agriculture Minister Sulaiman added that Indonesia can export to other ASEAN countries, emphasizing domestic needs remain the priority.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono has assured that the government’s plan to export two thousand tons of rice to Malaysia per month will not impact the country’s domestic rice stocks.
“Insha’allah (God willing), (it is) safe,” he told journalists here on Friday when asked if exporting rice to the neighboring country would disrupt Indonesia’s domestic rice stocks.
He explained that rice supplies for Malaysia will be sourced from the stocks stored at the warehouses of the state logistics agency Bulog, which receives up to 20 thousand tons per day from domestic production.
Hence, Sudaryono affirmed that Indonesia is ready to begin rice exports to Malaysia once the neighbor’s importers are ready, noting that the decision now rests with them.
Regarding rice exports, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman had earlier stated that Indonesia is ready to export its rice not only to Malaysia but also to other ASEAN member countries.
“As directed by Mr. President (Prabowo Subianto), if a friendly country, particularly our neighbor, is in need of rice, we are ready to provide it,” he said while emphasizing that Indonesia’s domestic rice stocks are secure and sufficient to meet domestic demand before any exports take place.
The rice exported to Malaysia would primarily be sourced from West Kalimantan but other companies near the neighboring country may also participate in the exports, he remarked, adding that the export agreement will be conducted on a business-to-business (B2B) basis, with the export start date to be determined by the businesses involved.
