Indonesia’s maize production expected to rise significantly in the first half of 2025
Indonesia’s maize production is forecast to reach 8.07 million tonnes in January–June 2025, up 12.88% from 2024, according to BPS. April–June will drive the rise, with 3.34 million tonnes expected. Harvested area is set to expand after a March dip. Key producing provinces include East Java, Central Java, and West Nusa Tenggara, among others.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has forecast that dry maize (14% moisture) production for the January-June 2025 period will be 8.07 million tonnes. This is expected to be a 12.88% increase from the same period in 2024, when maize production was lower.
BPS Deputy Governor Puji Ismartini said the main contributor to this output will be the April-June 2025 period, when production is expected to reach 3.34 million tonnes. This is up from the March estimate of 1.63 million tonnes.
While the harvested area fell to 0.29 million hectares in March 2025, BPS expects it to expand to 0.58 million hectares in the following months.
Ten provinces play a key role in national corn production, including East Java, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, North Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Gorontalo, West Sumatra and East Nusa Tenggara.
