This will lead to a surge in acreage and aid in reducing imports,” SOPA chairman Davish Jain said.Industry players commended the govt’s strategic steps to revitalise the soybean and edible oil sectors, emphasising initiatives such as increased import duties on edible oils, National Mission on Oilseeds, and the Rs 101 billion programme designed to double India’s oilseed production by 2030-31.SOPA also urged a price increase for edible oils to at least Rs 160 per litre to match current fuel prices.
“It is highly inconsistent that fuel prices are about 40 per cent higher than edible oil. SOPA has consistently raised its voice to end this disparity. We believe that the price of edible oil should be at least Rs 160 per litre so that our farmers can get the right reward for their hard work,” said Jain.
