Input assistance scheme benefits extended to lentils, oilseeds, maize growers in Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh government has expanded the Krishak Unnati Yojana to include lentils, oilseeds, and maize growers, previously limited to paddy farmers. This input assistance scheme now supports crop diversification. The cabinet also approved the Chhattisgarh State Logistics Policy-2025, Jan Vishwas Amendment Bill, and the formation of Pension and Growth & Stability Funds, aiming to boost exports, ease governance, and ensure financial resilience.

Raipur, Jun 30 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh government on Monday decided to extend the benefits of the input assistance scheme to those growing lentils, oilseeds and maize. The decision on the scheme, which was so far restricted to paddy, was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai here at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhavan, Deputy CM Arun Sao told reporters. “The cabinet has taken a major decision in the interest of farmers. It has expanded the purview of the Krishak Unnati Yojana. Now the benefits of the scheme will also be provided to growers of lentils, oilseeds, maize along with paddy cultivators,” he said. Registered farmers who had cultivated paddy in Kharif season 2024 and sold the produce at minimum support price (MSP) and are now growing lentils, oilseeds and maize in Kharif season 2025 instead of paddy will also be eligible for the scheme, Sao informed. The state government has been procuring paddy from farmers at Rs 3100 per quintal, which includes input assistance given to farmers under Krishak Unnati Yojana apart from MSP, he said.

The cabinet also approved the draft of Chhattisgarh State Logistics Policy-2025, which aims to make the state a logistics hub and strengthen its export infrastructure, he said. “The national and multinational companies linked to the logistics sector and e-commerce will be attracted to invest in the state in view of its suitable geographical location. Encouraging the establishment of dry port / inland container depot through this policy will provide an opportunity to micro, small and medium industries and local producers to reach export markets,” the deputy CM said. An ecosystem will be created for the export of the state’s abundant forest resources, forest produce and forest medicinal products, he said, adding the policy will also create new employment opportunities for the youth.

The draft of Chhattisgarh Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025 to decriminalize provisions of some laws in the state was also approved. “The Jan Vishwas Bill will increase the ease of doing business and living. There will be a reduction in unnecessary judicial cases and the expenditure incurred in them,” he said. In another key decision in the interest of state government employees, the cabinet has approved a draft bill regarding the formation of Chhattisgarh Pension Fund and its management and regulation, he said. The cabinet also approved the draft bill regarding the formation of Chhattisgarh Growth and Stability Fund to ensure proper management of abnormal increase/decrease in revenue and financial security during economic recession, he said.
