Japan approves over D112M grant for rice production in Gambia


The Government of Japan has approved a grant of GMD 112,686,048 for The Gambia’s “Agricultural Land Development Project for Improving Rice Production.” This initiative aims to boost agricultural productivity by developing arable land, establishing irrigation infrastructure, and enhancing food security. The project aligns with The Gambia’s goal of achieving self-sufficiency in rice production, strengthening the partnership between Japan and The Gambia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad wishes to inform the public that the Government of Japan, through its Japanese Food Assistance Counterpart Fund, has approved a grant amounting to One Hundred Twelve Million, Six Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand and Forty-Eight Gambian Dalasis (GMD 112,686,048) in support of the project titled: ‘Agricultural Land Development Project for Improving Rice Production’.
This timely initiative seeks to enhance agricultural productivity through the development of arable land, establishment of irrigation infrastructure, and other related interventions aimed at strengthening national food security. The project directly supports The Gambia’s broader development objectives, particularly in advancing self-sufficiency in rice production.
