Japan buys 129,660 tons of food wheat via tender
TOKYO, July 4 (Reuters) – Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) purchased 129,660 metric tons of food-quality wheat from the United States, Canada, and Australia in a recent tender, which closed on July 3. As the world’s sixth-largest wheat importer, Japan closely manages its imports of this vital staple, primarily for milling purposes, through regular tenders issued approximately three times per month.
TOKYO, July 4 (Reuters) -Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) bought a total of 129,660 metric tons of food-quality wheat from the United States, Canada and Australia in a regular tender that closed on Wednesday July 3.
Japan, the world’s sixth-biggest importer of wheat, keeps a tight grip on imports of its second most important staple after rice and buys the majority of the grain for milling via tenders typically issued three times a month.
