Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar has directed all sugar factories in Mandya to ensure sugarcane farmers are paid within 15 days, addressing past complaints of delayed payments. Five factories are preparing for the upcoming crushing season and must obtain renewal certificates. Factories must support 15,000 incoming laborers with amenities and health awareness. Production targets range from 4 to 8 lakh metric tonnes.
Deputy Commissioner Kumar on Monday directed all sugar factories in the district to ensure that sugarcane farmers are paid within 15 days.
Chairing a meeting with sugar factory officials at his office in Mandya, Dr. Kumar said that several complaints were received last year from farmers about delayed payments. “This time, such complaints must not arise. Timely payments are mandatory,” he emphasised.
The meeting was informed that five sugar factories in the district are currently preparing for the upcoming crushing season. A detailed report on their preparedness will be submitted to the central office in Bengaluru. All factories will begin operations on the date set by the Sugar Commissioner, and each unit must obtain a renewal certificate before starting crushing activities.
Dr. Kumar said factories are permitted to crush only the sugarcane allocated to their designated operational areas and advised officials to address any internal technical issues before the season begins.
Approximately 15,000 laborers from outside districts and States are expected to arrive for the harvesting season. In this regard, Dr. Kumar instructed factory managements to provide basic amenities, including drinking water and sanitation facilities. With the monsoon season approaching, he also called for raising awareness among workers about the potential spread of infectious diseases and ensuring timely payment of wages.
The details shared by factory representatives on production capacities and targets during the meeting include – Coromandel Sugar Factory – 4,000 metric tonnes a day, with a seasonal target of 5.5 lakh (5,50,000) metric tonnes; NSL Sugar Factory – 5,000 metric tonnes a day, with a target of 7 lakh (7,00,000) metric tonnes; Chamundeshwari Sugar Factory – 5,000 metric tonnes a day, with a target of 8 lakh (8,00,000) metric tonnes; MRN Sugar Factory – 3,500 metric tonnes a day, with a target of 4 lakh (4,00,000) metric tonnes; and MySugar Factory – 4,000 metric tonnes a day, with a target of 4.2 lakh (4,20,000) metric tonnes.
