Karnataka : Minister seeks reasons for Mysugar failing to meet crushing target

Minister Shivanand Patil expressed concern over the Mysore Sugar Company’s failure to meet its crushing target of 2.5 lakh tonnes, halting operations in November. During a review, he emphasized completing repairs before the next season and achieving set targets. He also criticized sugar sales despite previous instructions and suggested selling molasses when the price is favorable.

Minister for Textiles, Sugar, Sugarcane Development and Agricultural Marketing Shivanand Patil on Wednesday sought to know the reason for the State-owned Mysore Sugar Company in Mandya not meeting the crushing target when it was given the target to crush 2.5 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.

When other sugar factories are still crushing the cane, Mysugar stopped crushing in November last year. Such instances should not happen in the next crushing season and the target has to be achieved, the Minister directed the Mysugar officials in Mysuru, during a review meeting.

He expressed displeasure for selling sugar despite directions against it. Before the next crushing season, repairs and other maintenance works must be completed at the Mysugar factory. The molasses can be sold when there is a good price, he advised.

Mysugar chairman C.D. Gangadhar and in-charge MD Veena were present.
