Karnataka -No issues of pending sugarcane bills: Patil

Karnataka Sugar Minister Shivanand Patil stated that there are no pending sugarcane bill issues, with 80% of payments made. Sugar production is expected to drop by 10% due to last year’s drought. Digital weighing machines are in use to prevent fraud. Patil also mentioned plans to revise APMC laws and dismissed rumors about a CM change.
Belagavi: Sugar minister Shivanand Patil said there is no issue with pending sugarcane bills in Karnataka. Speaking to the media here on Monday, the minister said the 72 sugar factories in the state have taken steps to pay bills to farmers who supplied cane. Around 80% of the bills are already paid, while 55 to 60% of the bills are paid by a few factories. There is no problem in paying sugarcane bills now, he said. “This time, sugar production will probably decrease by 10% than last year. Last year, the target of crushing 520 lakh tonnes of sugarcane was set, but this target was not achieved. This year, the target of crushing sugarcane will be reduced by a further 10% due to last year’s drought,” he stated. To prevent fraud in sugarcane weighing, digital weighing machines are currently being used in all 72 factories. The representatives of the Sugarcane Control Board have visited the factories and inspected these machines. There are currently no irregularities in weighing, he said. Patil said the current APMC market laws are detrimental to the interests of farmers and that there are plans to bring in other laws, which are expected to be implemented soon.
“The issue of changing the chief minister is being spoken in the media. No activities are observed in the Congress party regarding the issue. The decision of the CLP and the high command is final on the issue of changing the CM. Siddaramaiah can complete his five-year term, and after this, he can continue further for one more term,” he said.
