Karnataka : Procurement centres for maize opened at Chamarajanagar
KMF has begun direct maize procurement at ₹2,400 per quintal through CHAMUL for cattle feed production. Farmers registered on e-Samridhi and FRUITS can sell up to 12 quintals per acre, capped at 20 quintals. Only those with maize listed in crop records qualify. Payments will be made via DBT after quality testing.
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has begun purchasing maize directly from farmers at the government-fixed support price. Procurement centres have been opened in local cooperative societies across the district through the Chamarajanagar District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (CHAMUL).
The Union will procure maize required for cattle feed production in KMF-owned feed plants. The State government has fixed a support price of ₹2,400 per quintal, which includes the base price, the cost of two gunny bags, and transportation. Procurement will be done directly from farmers, subject to quality norms.
The process of purchasing maize for KMF’s Hassan cattle feed plant has already commenced. Registration will be carried out through the e-Samridhi platform developed by NCDEX eMarkets Limited (NeML) and the State’s Farmer Registration and a Unified beneficiary Information System (FRUITS) software, coordinated by staff of the milk cooperative societies and designated Union officials. After sample testing, eligible produce will be procured, a press release stated.
Only farmers whose crop survey records (RTC) list maize as the cultivated crop are eligible. Under the scheme, 12 quintals per acre and a maximum of 20 quintals of FAQ-grade maize per farmer will be procured. Payments will be made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to bank accounts linked with the farmer’s Aadhaar number, the release added.
