Karnataka Sugar Factory: Sugar factories in border areas will start soon? Strong move by Karnataka Govt
Belgaum Sugar Factory: Low rainfall across the country has had a major impact on agricultural production. Sugarcane crop has been hit the hardest. A few days ago, experts in the sugar industry expressed fear of a decrease in the production of lakhs of metric tons of sugarcane.
A lot of sugarcane is produced in the state of Karnataka, but due to lack of rain this year, the sugarcane production has decreased.
Meanwhile, due to the decrease in sugarcane production due to lack of rain, the sugar factories in Belgaum and North Karnataka should start the season after November 1, the Secretary of the State Trade and Industrial Department Dr. Richard D’Souza has warned Belgaum Collector Nitesh Patil.
Sugar factories in Karnataka start the season according to their wishes. This type is especially prevalent in North Karnataka. This leads to competition for taking sugarcane from the factories. Thus the immature sugarcane is filtered. As a result, the byproduct with sugar extract appears on the product.
After the early opening of the factories in North Karnataka, these factories illegally and unofficially pulverize sugarcane from the area of operation of other factories. It creates debate and law and order problem. Considering that, there is an order for the factories to start the season from 1st to 15th November only.
Such instructions have been given in the meeting held on July 8 of Karnataka’s Committee of Ministers. At the same time, the sugar commissioner of the state has sent a letter on August 11 and has given such instructions to the factories in North Karnataka. Meetings have been held on September 12 and 13 in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Some important decisions have been taken there.
It includes the decision not to open sugar mills in North Karnataka before November 1. Dr. mentioned about taking action by the Collector if the factory starts before the scheduled date. In the letter sent by D’Souza. Sugarcane production has decreased this year due to lack of rain. Most sugarcane is produced in Belgaum.
Athani, Kagwad, Kudchi , Raibag and Chikkodi taluks produce surplus. However, this year also in this taluka, due to heavy rains, the production has decreased. Last year the season started on November 21, 2022. This year too, preparations are underway to start the factory. In 2022-23, 27,200 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane has been crushed in Belgaum district. Food and civil supply officials have informed that this year sugarcane production is less than last year by 20 lakh metric tons.
According to the information given by the Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department, there are instructions from the government to start sugar factories after November 1. Due to this, sugar factories in the district will be started after Dussehra and Diwali festivals are over. Factories will not start from November 1. However, the factories are likely to start in the first or second week of November.
