Kazakhstan Ships 60,000 Tons of Wheat to Morocco via Baltic Route


Kazakhstan has started shipping 60,000 tons of wheat to Morocco, with the first 105-wagon train already en route. Originating from northern grain hubs, the wheat will travel through Latvia to the Baltic port of Liepāja, then by sea to Morocco. The move highlights Morocco’s growing demand for Kazakh wheat known for high milling quality.
Doha – Kazakhstan has begun shipping 60,000 tons of wheat to Morocco through an ambitious logistical operation spanning thousands of kilometers across rail and sea routes, Kazakhstan’s national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTJ) announced on Tuesday.
Seventeen trains originating from the grain-producing northern regions have been assembled at the Jaña-Esil station (Aqmola division) and Sarykol station (Kostanai division).
According to details provided by KTJ, these wheat-laden trains will traverse Latvian territory before reaching the Baltic Sea port of Liepāja, where the grain will be transferred to merchant vessels bound for the Moroccan coast.
The inaugural convoy, consisting of 105 grain wagons, is already en route, initiating a logistical pathway connecting the Central Asian steppes to North African shores.
According to the latest available data reported by the agricultural analysis bureau APK-Inform, Morocco imported 83,500 tons of wheat from Kazakhstan during the first quarter of this year, reflecting its continued interest in Kazakh harvests known for their milling quality.
