Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade foresees no sugar shortage this year

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration, Kairat Torebayev, assured that the country will not face a sugar crisis this year, thanks to the government’s efforts to collaborate with sugar beet farmers and refineries. This comes after a sugar shortage in 2022 caused by Russia’s temporary ban on sugar exports to EEU nations, which left Kazakhstan reliant on Russian imports for 55% of its sugar supply. During the shortage, authorities delayed addressing the issue until supplies disappeared from shelves, later announcing negotiations with Brazil, India, and Vietnam for alternatives.
