Lucknow To Host International Conference On Sugar Industry Challenges, Focus On AI, Ethanol Blending And Global Standards


An international sugar industry conference kicks off in Lucknow on May 14, focusing on boosting sugarcane output through AI, new varieties, and mechanisation. Hosted by UP Sugar Mills Association and Greentech Consultants, the event will unite experts from India and abroad to discuss ethanol blending, global sugar standards, and future fuels like green hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels.
An international conference on business models for mitigating challenges in the sugar industry will be held in Lucknow on Wednesday, May 14. The conference will discuss increasing sugarcane production through the development of new varieties, precision farming, mechanisation, and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Organised jointly by the UP Sugar Mills Association, Lucknow, and Greentech Consultants, Kanpur, the conference will include representatives from sugar-producing states in India, as well as from countries like Thailand, Nepal, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. Principal Secretary, Cane Development and Sugar Industry, Veena Kumari, and Cane Commissioner, Pramod Kumar Upadhyay, will also attend the conference.
Deepak Guptara, General Secretary of the UP Sugar Mills Association, stated that research institutions, industry representatives, policymakers, and scientists will participate in the conference sessions.
Prof Narendra Mohan, former director of the National Sugar Institute and the main organiser of the conference, said experts will discuss several issues, including domestic and global sugar balance, efforts to address the measurable reduction in sugarcane production given the need for ethanol blending, and the diversion of sugar for ethanol production during the next crushing season.
Harmonising Indian sugar standards with international standards will also be discussed. A key session will be held on state-of-the-art technology. Sameer Sinha, President of the UP Sugar Mills Association, said that the technologies and economics of future fuels like sustainable aviation fuels and green hydrogen will also be discussed.
