Ludhiana: Sugarcane workshop at PAU concludes

The 35th biennial workshop of the All-India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on sugarcane, held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), emphasized sustainable sugarcane cultivation strategies. Experts from across India discussed improving crop productivity, disease resistance, and mechanization. The plenary session, chaired by Dr. T.R. Sharma of ICAR, featured key research insights from leading agricultural scientists on advancing sugarcane farming practices.

Ludhiana: The 35th biennial workshop of the All-India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on sugarcane, held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), concluded on Tuesday with experts and scientists underscoring innovative crop management strategies and future roadmaps for sustainable cultivation.Organized jointly by PAU, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), regional research stations (RRS) at Kapurthala and Faridkot, and The Crop Improvement Society of India, the workshop brought together delegates from across the country to exchange insights on improving sugarcane productivity, disease resistance, and mechanization.

The plenary session was chaired by Dr T R Sharma, deputy director general (crop science), ICAR, New Delhi, with co-chairmen Dr Prasanta Dash, ADG (CC), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr R. Viswanathan, director, ICAR-IISR, Lucknow; Dr P. Govindaraj, director, ICAR-SBI, Coimbatore; and Dr KS Thind, former additional director of research, PAU.
