Madhya Pardesh Cabinet raises wheat procurement bonus, approves key reforms

Madhya Pradesh’s cabinet, led by CM Mohan Yadav, raised the wheat procurement bonus from ₹125 to ₹175 per quintal, bringing the total price to ₹2,600 per quintal for the 2025-26 Rabi season. Paddy farmers will receive ₹4,000 per hectare as an incentive instead of a bonus per quintal. The state allocated ₹1,400 crore for wheat procurement.
Bhopal: The state cabinet, chaired by CM Mohan Yadav, on Tuesday approved an increase in the wheat procurement bonus from Rs 125 to Rs 175 per quintal for the Rabi marketing year 2025-26. The move aligns with the BJP’s election manifesto that promised Rs 2,700 per quintal for wheat procurement. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, urban development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said the decision brings the total wheat procurement price to Rs 2,600 per quintal, with the minimum support price (MSP) set at Rs 2,425 per quintal. Wheat procurement will begin on March 15, with the state government allocating Rs 1,400 crore to procure 80 lakh MT. “In the BJP Sankalp Patra for the assembly election, it was promised to pay Rs 2,700 per quintal for the procurement of wheat. The cabinet decided to take a step ahead to fulfilling that promise,” Vijayvargiya said. Paddy acquisition after the Kharif harvest will see the govt paying an incentive per hectare of crop instead of bonus per quintal. “Under the Kharif marketing season 2024, the state govt will provide an incentive of Rs 4,000 per hectare to farmers selling paddy. This will benefit 6.70 lakh farmers. The scheme will cover 12.20 lakh hectares of paddy cultivation. The state govt will spend Rs 480 crore for this initiative,” the minister said.
