Sugarcane farmers from 10 villages in Maharashtra have requested permission to supply their cane to the Burhanpur sugar mill in Madhya Pradesh due to economic challenges at local mills. The farmers, including those from Malkapur, Akot, and Bhusawal, met with Collector Bhavya Mittal, who informed them that technical reasons, including designated crushing areas, may complicate processing their cane at Burhanpur.
Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh – The sugarcane crushing season is about to commence in Burhanpur district (Madhya Pradesh), with local mill preparing to receive the newly harvested cane from fields. In a related development, sugarcane farmers from 10 villages of Maharashtra have requested permission to supply their cane to the Burhanpur sugar mill.
On Friday, farmers from over ten villages in Maharashtra visited the collector’s office to urge for approval to supply cane to the Naval Singh cooperative sugar mill. They met with Collector Bhavya Mittal, who also serves as the administrator of the mill, to discuss their concerns.
Farmers have expressed a desire to supply their cane to Burhanpur mill due to ongoing economic challenges faced by many sugar factories in Maharashtra, which are impacting the facilities available to them. They believe that the Burhanpur mill offer better amenities and conditions for selling their sugarcane, reported Amar Ujala.
The farmers, hailing from Malkapur, Akot, Muktaiganj, Varangaon, Bhusawal, Jalgaon Jamod, Raver, Sawda, Yawal, and Dharnai, discussed the issue with the collector. However, they were informed that technical reasons could complicate the processing of Maharashtra sugarcane in Burhanpur, as each sugar factory has designated crushing areas and only uses cane from those specific regions.
Collector Bhavya Mittal assured the farmers that their concerns would be taken into consideration, noting that any decision would depend on the capacity and crushing areas of the sugar mill.
