Maize sowing increases in current year

As of July 8, 2024, the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare reported significant progress in kharif crop sowing across India. Maize cultivation has expanded to 41.09 lakh hectares this year, up from 30.22 lakh hectares in 2023. Other notable increases include pulses at 36.81 lakh hectares, oilseeds covering 80.31 lakh hectares, and cotton at 80.63 lakh hectares. Paddy, the predominant crop, has been sown across 59.99 lakh hectares. Overall, total area under kharif crops stands at 378.72 lakh hectares, marking a substantial rise from last year’s 331.90 lakh hectares.

The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare has released progress of area coverage under kharif crops as on 8th July 2024.

The maize sowing reached 41.09 lakh hectares in the current year, higher than 30.22 lakh hectares reported in the year 2023.
