Mandya: Mysugar factory may procure sugarcane from other districts to meet sugarcane crushing target

The sugarcane crushing season in Mandya district started as MySugar factory resumed operations, inaugurated by Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy. Last season, the factory crushed 2,41,305 metric tonnes, clearing all farmer dues. Despite a sugarcane shortage due to drought, the target is 2.50 lakh metric tonnes, with 1.90 lakh from the district and the rest from other areas. Chaluvarayaswamy is optimistic about future profitability.

The sugarcane crushing season in Mandya district commenced as MySugar factory began operations on Sunday. Minister for Agriculture and Mandya in charge N Chaluvarayaswamy inaugurated the crushing after performing puja for the factory boiler. He emphasized that the revival of MySugar was driven by a commitment to support farmers, rather than focusing solely on profitability.

“In the previous season, the factory crushed 2,41,305 metric tonnes of sugarcane, and all dues were cleared for the farmers,” Chaluvarayaswamy stated.

Highlighting the current challenges, he noted a sugarcane shortage due to drought conditions this year.

“Our target is to crush 2.50 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane. While 1.90 lakh metric tonnes are available in the district, the remaining will be sourced from other districts,” he explained. The factory will also be crushing sugarcane from farmers that had not entered into the agreement.

Chaluvarayaswamy expressed confidence in the factory’s future profitability.
