Milling wheat reserves in Kazakhstan amount to 16 mln tons

Kazakhstan’s milling wheat reserves stand at about 16 million tonnes, ensuring ample supplies for domestic consumption and export needs. The large stock base supports food security, stabilises prices, and strengthens the country’s position as a key grain supplier to Central Asia and international markets amid global supply uncertainties.

As of December 1, 2025, Kazakhstan has 22.1 million tons of grain and palses stored, of which 18.4 million tons are milling, according to the National Statistics Bureau. The largest volumes are wheat – 17.9 million tons, of which 16 million tons are milling. There are also 981 thousand tons of durum wheat, 2.5 million tons of barley, 299 thousand tons of rice, 268 thousand tons of corn and 247 thousand tons of oats.

Grain and legumes stocks are largely concentrated in the northern and central regions of the country: Akmola region – 6.6 million tons, Kostanay and North Kazakhstan regions – 5.5 million tons each. Karaganda region stores 1.2 million tons, Pavlodar – 952 thousand tons, East Kazakhstan – 466 thousand tons. In other regions, stocks range from 60 to 400 thousand tons.

According to the bureau, in January-September 2025, wheat exports amounted to 5.4 million tons, and imports – 432 thousand tons. Barley exports reached 1.2 million tons, imports – 64 thousand tons, corn exports – 101 thousand tons, imports – 15 thousand tons.

Thus, Kazakhstan demonstrates stable internal stocks and active participation in foreign trade in grain crops, which ensures food security and supports the country’s export potential.
