The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Ras Al Khaimah Petroleum Authority (RAKPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost collaboration in the energy sector. This agreement focuses on sustainable energy transformation, including sharing geological surveys, researching natural hydrogen, exploring carbon capture through mineralization, and assessing geothermal energy potential in Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Ras Al Khaimah Petroleum Authority (RAKPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance their collaboration in the energy sector, reported ANI.

The MoU was signed by Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, and Christopher Wood, Chief Executive of RAKPA.

The agreement facilitates cooperation on sustainable energy transformation efforts, including sharing geological, geophysical, and hydrogeological surveys, researching natural hydrogen, exploring carbon capture through mineralisation, and assessing geothermal energy potential in Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE.

These efforts reflect a mutual dedication to a low-carbon future, aiming to meet increasing energy demands while pursuing shared goals in the sustainable energy transition.

Al Olama stated, “Our dedication to improving synergy among government entities to achieve national energy targets and promote sustainable energy remains strong. Our partnership with RAKPA is a key step toward achieving the UAE’s net zero by 2050 goal, as emphasized at the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).”

He continued, “Collaborating with RAKPA supports our transition to clean energy and enhances environmental sustainability by integrating innovative technologies like natural hydrogen and carbon sequestration. This aligns with our national vision of establishing the UAE as a leader in clean and renewable energy and securing a sustainable future for future generations.”

Christopher Wood remarked, “This MoU underscores RAKPA’s dedication to advancing innovative energy solutions in Ras Al Khaimah. Partnering with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure allows us to leverage our combined expertise to explore cutting-edge technologies in natural hydrogen production and carbon capture and storage.”

Both organizations plan to work together on joint technical and regulatory workshops and to initiate studies on emerging energy technologies.
