New project aims producing green hydrogen announced in Morocco
The “Chbika” green hydrogen project in Morocco, backed by TotalEnergies’ TE H2, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and A.P. Møller Capital, will produce green hydrogen powered by 1 GW of solar and wind energy. Located in Guelmim-Oued Noun, the project will use desalinated seawater electrolysis to produce approximately 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, aimed at supplying the European market.
A new initiative for green hydrogen production has been launched in Morocco, reported Energy Live News.
Dubbed the “Chbika” project, this venture involves a partnership between TE H2, a joint effort of TotalEnergies and the EREN Group, along with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and A.P. Møller Capital.
As per the media report, the project plans to establish a large-scale renewable energy facility.
Situated in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, close to the Atlantic coast, the initiative aims to generate 1 gigawatt (GW) of onshore solar and wind energy.
This renewable energy will be harnessed to produce green hydrogen via the electrolysis of desalinated seawater.
The hydrogen produced will then be transformed into approximately 200,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, with a focus on supplying the European market.
