Next phase of demand-led growth of ethanol to focus on higher blending target, flex-fuel vehicles and E-100
India is planning the next phase of its ethanol programme after achieving 20% blending, focusing on higher targets, flex-fuel vehicles, and E-100 adoption. Officials say boosting demand is key as production capacity rises, especially amid higher crude oil prices supporting the shift toward bio-energy.
India, after achieving 20 per cent ethanol blending with petrol, will look at a higher blending target, permitting flex-fuel vehicles, and adoption of E-100 in the next phase to drive demand, said Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra.
He said this at the Annual Distillers’ Conclave of the All India Distillers’ Association (AIDA) on Wednesday. .
According to a statement by AIDA, Chopra said: “I see the evolution of India’s ethanol programme reaching a pivotal moment, especially with the current upswing in crude oil prices creating a clear case for accelerating bio-energy. The industry has responded well by expanding distillation capacity; the next phase is about driving demand through higher blending targets, flex-fuel vehicles, and E-100 adoption.
