Nile Sugar spearheads $400mn sugar factory project in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region

Nile Sugar Company is investing $400 million to establish a sugar factory in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region. The project includes cultivating sugar beets on 50,000 hectares using water-saving technologies. The factory will process 12,000 tons of sugar beets daily and produce 200,000 tons of sugar annually. The government supports the initiative, particularly by ensuring water supply for irrigation and production.

A major investment project in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region is underway with the establishment of a sugar factory by Nile Sugar Company, an Egyptian firm. Recently, the Minister of Water Economy, Shavkat Khamrayev, held a meeting with Emad Farid, CEO of Nile Sugar, to discuss progress on the project.

Nile Sugar is spearheading the cultivation of sugar beets and the production of sugar in Jizzakh. With a total investment of $400mn, the project aims to cultivate sugar beets on 50,000 hectares of land using water-saving technologies. Additionally, a sugar factory will be constructed with the capacity to process 12,000 tons of sugar beets daily and produce 200,000 tons of sugar annually.

The company has already selected 102 hectares of land in the Khonimkurgan MFY, Gallaorol district, for the factory. The area’s proximity to existing infrastructure was a crucial factor in the decision. We are ready to collaborate on ensuring water supply for irrigation and sugar production processes,” Minister Khamrayev said during the meeting, signaling the government’s support for the project. Emad Farid emphasized the importance of agricultural land and water resources for the success of the factory.  “We tested sugar beet cultivation in Gallaorol, and the results were promising. The product quality and environmental conditions meet our expectations,” he stated.

The project includes plans to improve irrigation systems, including building water reservoirs and implementing water-saving technologies like drip and sprinkler irrigation. These measures are aimed at ensuring continuous water supply for sugar beet cultivation year-round.
