Optimus Technologies claims B100 biodiesel functions effectively at-30°F

Optimus Technologies successfully demonstrated that 100% biodiesel (B100) can power engines in sub-zero temperatures, challenging the belief that clean fuels struggle in cold conditions. Testing conducted at -30°F on an International truck equipped with Optimus’ solutions showed that B100 remains viable. Optimus Technologies, based in Pittsburgh, has recently conducted tests to challenge the belief that clean fuels like 100% biodiesel (B100) have difficulty powering engines in sub-zero temperatures. The company traveled to the Drive-In Cold Cell testing facility of Analytical Engineering in Columbus, Indiana, where engineers tested an International truck equipped with Optimus’ solutions, reported fFeet Equipment.

“We demonstrated that B100 performs at -30°F,” said Jon Ewing, co-founder and director of engineering. “Optimus’ suite of products ensures that clean biogenic fuels like B100 are both viable and cost-effective for fleets. We now have over 10 million miles and 750 trucks in operation, providing further evidence that clean transportation is feasible under any operating conditions or weather.”

Optimus highlighted that the capability to operate in cold weather was also supported by pilot partner ADM, which reported that its five Optimus trucks operated perfectly in -10°F temperatures in Central Illinois in February 2021. Fleet Equipment previously reported on the use of Optimus systems in snowplow fleets across Washington, D.C., Madison, Wis., and Ames, Iowa.
