Total payment of Rs. 818 crore has been made against the purchase to the farmers and majority of the produce has been lifted from the markets. This information was divulged by deputy commissioner Surabhi Malik on Monday, who also directed the sub divisional magistrates (DMs) and chiefs of the procurement agencies to expedite the procurement and lifting of the wheat from the grain markets.
Giving more information, the DC said, “The produce is needed to be purchased and lifted at the earliest to facilitate the farmers. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements to ensure wheat is lifted from the grain markets in a smooth, timely, and hassle-free manner. The Punjab government led by chief minister Bhagwant Mann is firmly committed to smooth and hassle-free procurement of the wheat and officers are duty-bound to make every effort to ensure that the government’s decision was implemented.”
Malik added. “So far 5,00,920 MT wheat has arrived in the grain markets of the district of which 4,91,012 MT has been purchased by the agencies. Nearly 63% of produce had also been lifted and payments worth Rs 818 crore have been paid to the farmers. I have also instructed officers concerned to maximize field visits to take stock of the entire operations at ground level. The officers must undertake regular visits to the grain markets under their jurisdiction and submit the daily report to him for regular monitoring. Any sort of laxity in performing this duty is totally unwarranted and undesirable.”
