Pakistan : ECC Approves Disposal of 500,000 Tons of Passco Wheat
Pakistan’s ECC approved supplying 300,000 metric tons of Passco wheat to Punjab to stabilize flour prices and ensure steady supply. Chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the meeting also cleared major grants for vaccines, urea subsidies, infrastructure projects, and social development initiatives.
The ECC also cleared the supply of 300,000 metric tons of Passco wheat to Punjab’s Food and Consumer Protection Department. The move aims to ensure steady wheat availability for flour mills and prevent price volatility in the retail market.
The meeting took place at the Finance Division under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. Federal ministers, senior officials, and regulatory representatives attended the session.
Alongside wheat decisions, the ECC approved several Technical Supplementary Grants. These include Rs29.66 billion for vaccine procurement under the national immunisation programme, Rs23.42 billion to share subsidies on imported urea between federal and provincial governments, and Rs1.9 billion for infrastructure projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The committee also approved funds for Cadet College Hasan Abdal and allowed the distribution of confiscated solar panels to Gilgit-Baltistan to support power generation.
Officials said the Passco wheat disposal plan would reduce financial pressure, support food supply chains, and help control flour prices across the country.
