Pakistan’s government has finalized a procedure to export 150,000 tonnes of sugar, as reported by ARY News. The export quota will be divided among provinces based on their crushing capacities: Punjab receives 61%, Sindh 32%, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 7%, with no allocation for Balochistan. Sugar export quotas will be managed by provincial cane commissioners without subsidies from federal or provincial governments. The State Bank of Pakistan will update the Economic Coordination Committee on export progress within 15 days, following approval on June 14 to oversee exports and monitor domestic price impacts.

The Pakistan government has established a procedure for exporting 150,000 tonnes of sugar, ARY News reported.

According to media report, the export quota will be allocated among the provinces based on their installed crushing capacities. Punjab will receive the largest share at 61 per cent, Sindh will get 32 per cent, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be allotted 7 per cent. There will be no allocation for sugar export from Balochistan.

The sources further detailed that the sugar export quota will be distributed through the cane commissioners of each province. Notably, both federal and provincial governments will not provide any subsidies for sugar exports.

The allocation of the export quota will be finalized within seven days of issuing the notification.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is required to inform the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet about the sugar export status within 15 days.

Previously, on June 14, the ECC approved the conditional export of 150,000 tonnes of sugar. It permitted the Ministry of Industry and Production to oversee the export, with the stipulation that it must not lead to a price increase in the domestic market. The ECC emphasized that if domestic sugar prices rise, the export permission will be revoked.
